WHY THIS WORKS
Gout is a form of arthritis that usually begins
with very severe attacks of joint pain. These attacks can take place in a number
of joints including the ankle, knee or elbow. However by far the most common is
the big toe. Crystals of uric acid accumulate in the joint causing the joint to
become red, inflamed, hot and unbearably sore. The attacks will usually subside
within a few weeks (much faster when treated with Leigh and Williams Gout Relief
Cream). If left untreated the gout may become chronic (constant without pain
relief).
It is known that Bee Venom contains at
least 18 active substances. One of the main components of Bee Venom is Melittin
(30 – 50%). Melittin is one of the most potent anti-inflammatory agents known,
100 times more powerful than hydrocortisol. Melittin has also been shown to
inhibit neutrophil superoxide and hydrogen peroxide production, it is believed
that this accounts for the anti inflammatory activity of bee venom since oxygen
radicals contribute to inflammatory tissue damage.
Another strong anti-inflammatory
substance present is Adolapin. By inhibiting cyclooxygenase Adolapin has an
analgesic effect.
Other useful substances found in bee
venom include Apamin, Mast Cell Degranulating Peptide (MSDP), Hyaluronidise,
Phospholipase A2, Histamine and Compound X all of which contribute to the
beneficial effects of bee venom. Measurable amounts of the neurotransmitters
Dopamine, Norepinephrine and Seratonin are also present. One of the main enzymes
of Bee Venom, hyaluronidase, breaks down hyaluronic acid, the interstitial fluid
that holds cells together, allowing for fast venom spread among
cells.
Our cream’s potency is increased
further by the inclusion of Betula allegheniensis oil (containing high levels of
Salicylic acid). This has a Cortisone like action. Also the acid softens the
skin, increases its permeability and is a treatment for gout even on its
own.
Methyl Sulfonyl Methane, also an
effective Gout treatment, is responsible for removing toxins, such as
crystallized Uric acid, from the joint. It has also been shown in studies to
reduce swelling and inflammation as well as relieving
pain.
